Description

The 24th IUFRO World Congress, together with the National Convention of the Society of American Foresters (SAF) and the Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF/ICF) Annual General Meeting, gathered more than 3500 participants form more than 100 countries.

It was repeatedly stated throughout the event that the need for international forest research and the dissemination of research findings has never been greater. In addition, a great need for forest science to reach out to other scientific disciplines in order to develop and promote integrated solutions was identified.

The recent "In the Bog" conference co-sponsored by IUFRO 9.03.01 'Social and Economic History' held in Sheffield, UK, is an excellent example of such an integrative approach as it covered a range of disciplines, and gave a global perspective to the ecology, landscape, archaeology and heritage of peatlands.
