Membership of IUFRO is open to any institution concerned with the promotion, support or conduct of research related to forests, trees and forest products.
Nature Conservation and Protected Areas refers to designated locations that receive conservation or protection because of their recognized natural and/or cultural values such as parks, wilderness, wildlife reserves, cultural and historic sites, and other forms of protected areas. Generally, these areas are managed in a way that limits human occupation or use of the resources to protect unique or high value elements of biodiversity, cultural heritage and so forth. The main focus is of the unit on the human and social dimensions of policy and management of such areas, IUFRO Unit 6.04.00 has the aims to:
- Develop nature conservation and protected areas management as an area of scientific attention.
- Improve networking and exchange among protected areas researchers and mangers worldwide.
- Promote a multi-disciplinary approach to research and practice.
