Membership of IUFRO is open to any institution concerned with the promotion, support or conduct of research related to forests, trees and forest products.
The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) honours through a variety of awards individuals and member organizations who advance science and promote international cooperation in all fields of research related to forestry or who provide outstanding services to IUFRO. The scope of activities is spread through a number of IUFRO Divisions, IUFRO Task Forces and Special Programmes and Projects (SciPol, IUFRO-SPDC and IUFRO-WFSE).
IUFRO recognizes deserving individuals and member organizations through the honours and awards listed below. In the selection of the awardees IUFRO strives to reflect the equity, diversity, and inclusion of its broad membership across more than 115 member countries and about 630 member organizations.
The Honours and Awards Committee consists of a Committee Chair, one representative of each IUFRO Division and one representative of the International Forestry Students’ Association IFSA. The IUFRO President and the IUFRO Executive Director are ex officio members of the Committee.
In close cooperation with the IUFRO Board, the International Council and IUFRO Headquarters, the Honours and Awards Committee draws up guidelines for nomination & eligibility as well as assesses nominations for many of IUFRO’s honours and awards, adhering to the Committee’s conflict of interest policy. The Committee also makes recommendations for new awards.
