Description

During  the IUFRO Congress, the IUFRO  Directors’ Forum (SPDF) organised an additional informal meeting to discuss strategic orientations for the coming years.

Discussions with heads of member organisations covered:

  • communicating at the science-policy interface
  • strengthening advisory capacities for forest research institutions
  • creating regional leadership networks
  • next steps for the Directors’ Forum

Given that the members of the Directors’ Forum believe that one of the most successful tools in research management is effective communication of research results to decision makers and the public at large, activities in the coming years will focus on strengthening the science-policy interface

Moreover, considering the varying interests across regions, and to allow for more effective and targeted topical discussions within smaller groups, future work will be increasingly structured along regional lines. Consequently, common topics of interest as well as common denominators building on the similar organizational environments and challenges could be discussed in a more in-depth fashion. This change would also simplify coordination across time zones, allowing both, in-person and online meetings, to be organised more regularly. Regional activities will be brought together under a global umbrella at a session at the next IUFRO Congress.
