Biography

  • Dr. Jane Njuguna is the first Acting female Chief Executive Officer / Director KEFRI.

  • PhD in Forest Mycology and Pathology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Sweden, an MSc in Forest Science: University of Melbourne and BSC in Botany and Zoology from The University of Nairobi. 

  • A strategic link between policy makers and forestry research and development.

  • Strategic planner and consultant in forestry, environment, energy, gender, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. 

  • Published widely in forest health in peer reviewed journals, other print and audio and social media on forestry, research, policies and policy briefs

  • Won many research and development grants from public and development partners. 

  • A passionate leader and technical advisor in the development and conservation of high-quality forest tree germplasm for healthy sustainable forests. 

  • Developed the first ever Award-Winning mobile and web-based application based on species to site matching tool: KEFRIApp =Jazamiti App: being used to guide and track progress towards the achievement of the 15 billion tree growing strategy by 2032.

  • A mentor, motivator and coach to the young people in forest research and development initiatives.

  • Member of:  IUFRO Div 7, The OECD Forest Seed Scheme, traceability Committee, Africa Forests Forum, Forestry Society of Kenya and Kenya Professional Association of Women in Agriculture and Environment.
