Biography

Ola Lindroos holds a professor chair in Forest Operations at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), in Umeå, Sweden. He holds an MSs and a PhD in Forestry from SLU, and did a post-doc with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria. During the period 2019-2024, he was the vice-dean with responsibility for SLUs forestry educations on the undergraduate and graduate levels. Prior to that, he was the editor-in-chief for the International Journal of Forest Engineering during 2012-2015.

With a background in Small-scale forestry, Ola’s first connection with IUFRO was during an IUFRO-sponsored workshop in Slovenia in 2003. However, the first major contact with the full IUFRO network was when he attendended the XXII World Congress in Brisbane in 2005. Since then, he has had a strong passion for international cooperation, which eventually resulted in the engagement as deputy coordinator for IUFRO Division 3 during the period 2014-2024. During the period 2024-2029 he is the co-cordinator of Division 3, together René Zamore-Cristales. 

Dr. Lindroos has a strong interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights from forestry, mechanical engineering, human factors and systems analysis. He is widely recognized for his contributions to precision forestry, timber harvesting technologies, and the application of data analytics in operational planning. With numerous peer-reviewed publications and active collaborations with industry stakeholders, Dr. Lindroos is committed to bridging research and practice to meet global challenges in forestry. His efforts aim to foster innovation that aligns with societal and ecological needs.
