Biography

Elfriede Moser is the Director-General for Forestry and Regions at the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management. 

In 1998, she joined the Forest Technology and Silviculture Department at the Upper Austrian State Forestry Directorate. Elfriede Moser took over the management of a District Forestry Inspectorate in 2010. In 2016, she became Director of the State Forest Service in Upper Austria and was responsible for around 500,000 hectares of forest. 

Since December 2023, she is the Director-General for Forestry and Regions at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management. 

She holds a degree in Forestry and Wood Management from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna. 

Around 50% of Austria’s land area is forest, which equates to 4 Million hectares. The federal ministry is the supreme regulatory agency for forests in Austria.
