GLFX South Coast Guatemala

The GLFx South Coast Guatemala chapter aims to promote forest landscape restoration in the pacific lowlands of Guatemala and enable exchange of experiences regionally and globally.
 

It is an initiative of the Private Institute for Research on Climate Change (ICC), the National Forests Institute (INAB) and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) to communicate the activities of the South Coast Restoration Network. The network was created by ICC and INAB in 2016 as a platform to promote forest landscape restoration activities in the region. It brings together sugar production companies, mangrove boards of Tiquisate and Iztapa, banana and palm oil producers, associations of local producers, NGOs, the National Council for Protected Areas - CONAP, and academia. Some of the actions implemented by the network include the creation of tree nurseries, actions related to restoration in priority areas, ecosystem restoration certificate courses (led by ICC and INAB with the support of the World Resources Institute-WRI), and field trips to exchange forest restoration experiences of members from the south coast. Future activities will include the addition of more stakeholders, implementation of strategies to enhance forest restoration opportunities, and strengthening members’ capacities.
