About the Working Party

The aim of our Working Party is to promote international co-operation between forest pathologists working primarily with root and stem rots of forest trees.  Meetings of the Working Party are organised at intervals of 3 to 5 years. The numbers of participants in these meetings range from 40 – 60. The atmosphere of our meetings is relaxed and designed for creative exchanges of ideas to motivate both young and senior researchers from all over the world. Quite typically we organize those meetings as tours where we mix field visits with presentations in- or outdoors. Presentations are published in proceedings and we try hard to accommodate all speakers.

STATE OF KNOWLEDGE

Heterobasidion spp. root rot on conifers was the first focus of our Working Party. Soon thereafter the spectrum of diseases has become more diversified to include all sorts of root rots and from the last meeting also stem diseases of both conifer and hardwood species. Research subjects of our working group include control of diseases in forests and plantations and also basic research on such as genome sequencing, pathogen biology and mechanisms of host resistance. Contributions are usually grouped according to phylogeny and taxonomy; ecology and biodiversity; control; genetic and population dynamics; pathogenicity, resistance and etiology, and incidence and epidemiology.
